Engineering Architecture

How Briefly operates natively on Windows without cloud bots or calendar permissions.

01 / CAPTURE

Direct WASAPI Loopback

Traditional meeting assistants require calendar invites and connect to the conference bridge as an external bot attendee. Briefly hooks into the Windows CoreAudio render client, capturing sound as it outputs to your headphones. The conferencing platform is unaware of the capture.

02 / LOCAL STORAGE

Dual-Stream MP3 Master

Your local microphone voice and the remote participant audio are captured in synchronized stereo channels. The desktop engine balances the streams and writes standard MP3 files directly to local user storage with zero dependency on an active internet connection.

03 / SYNTHESIS

Multi-Language Speech & Synthesis

Briefly handles cross-lingual conversations and natural multilingual code-switching across 30+ languages. Discussions in English, Roman Urdu/Hindi, European languages, or mixed regional dialects are automatically parsed, isolating agreed deadlines, deliverables, and client commitments into clear executive briefing documents.

04 / SYNCHRONIZATION

Token-Based Cloud Handshake

Pairing your Windows PC with this web dashboard requires a single machine token. Notes sync over authenticated HTTPS directly to your private D1 database workspace, preserving full data ownership on your account.

Frequently Answered Questions

Direct technical answers regarding audio routing, privacy, and installation.

How does Briefly capture call audio without joining as a bot?
Briefly runs locally on your PC. It queries the Windows Audio Session API (WASAPI) in loopback mode. When Zoom, Meet, or Teams outputs sound to your headphones, Windows provides an identical digital copy of that audio buffer to Briefly.
Will call attendees know I am recording?
No software bot joins the call and no automated announcements are triggered. You maintain full personal compliance and ethical discretion regarding your notes.
Where are the MP3 files stored?
Every recording is saved in %APPDATA%\Briefly\recordings\ as a standard MP3 file. You can open, move, or edit them with any audio player.
How does multi-language intelligence work?
Briefly recognizes code-switching, bilingual phrases, and regional speech patterns across 30+ languages. It parses conversational commitments, deliverables, and action items directly into standardized executive English notes and structured action checklists.
How do I connect the desktop app to this web portal?
Sign in, open your Account Settings to copy your Machine Pair Token, and run node engine/app.mjs pair <token> in the installed directory. Notes will then sync automatically.
